Political Correctness Is Ruining the World

Recently, I have come to realize that people are painfully politically correct. Painfully so because it seems that having a popular, socially acceptable view of something has snuffed out all evidence of personal conviction. It is not popular to have an opposing opinion of a group of people, a lifestyle choice or political agenda that alienates a group or does not accept them. When did everyone become all embracing of everyone and every choice? Do people not stand up for what they believe is right or wrong anymore? Or at the very least, hold a set of beliefs that are one's own instead of the popular opinion of the world because it is suddenly cool to be PC?

Every time I turn on the news it seems that someone is promoting the rights of a group or supporting their cause, all because it is politically correct to do so. That's not entirely fair. I'm sure several of those supporters believe in their cause. And that is good, right? To a point, I think it is. We live in the greatest nation in the world and have more freedoms than most have. The problem is, if someone is in opposition to the popular opinion of the masses they are considered a bigot, racist or narrow-minded. This is not fair. Watch the news and those terms are thrown around loosely. If you don't agree with the current president's policies, you're a racist. Or a hillbilly. Don't support gay marriage or the rights of another religious group? You are gonna be labeled a bigot. And narrow-minded and un-American. It is not okay to say that you don't support or believe in something that may offend a particular group because apparently, we are all supposed to support each other. Even if we don't. We are supposed to act like we do because that is politically correct.

I am all for supporting and accepting people, however when the topic at hand does not agree with or coincide with my beliefs, I cannot pretend for the sake of pleasing everyone that I support it. For me, it's pretty simple. Whatever the topic/situation is, I take it up with God. If He in His Word is for it, then so am I. If it is a behavior that He says to avoid, I do and I don't pretend to support it. "He who is not for me is against me" (Luke 11:23). Simply put, we cannot be for the things of the world and for the things of God. His Word is clear about that. We are to be in the world, but not of it because friends of the world are enemies of God (James 4:4). We can't support the world's agenda and God's, especially when the two oppose each other. So when there is a protest in support of another person/religious groups' right to do whatever and their stance contradicts what the Word of God says, how can I support it?

Bottom line, I don't. And I am not a bigot, racist, narrow-minded or un-American. I am God-minded, I am accepting of people but not of behaviors that God says are destructive and I'm not intimidated by the widespread sweep of politically correctness that has overtaken this world. And if that makes me politically incorrect, I am okay with that. I am not afraid to be in the minority that is unafraid to stand up for the things and causes that God honors and oppose/not support the things he warns against. But that's just me.

  1. I cannot tell you how much I agree with you on this! I am getting SO tired of all the political correctness, people trying to please everyone else, everyone feeling entitled and so on that I could just scream. I get so angry when someone gets offended when I (or anyone) don't agree with their lifestyle, beliefs, or choices. Well, I'm offended because you are living the way you are, believing the way you do or acting the way you're acting.

I posted a link to this blog post on my FB and I cannot wait to see the conversation it starts. Thank you for writing exactly how I, and many others, feel.

  2. I used to be very vocal about things I believed in and now I find myself hiding it because of the name calling like racist, hater, etc. I know I'm weak, but I'm also really tired of all the crap.

    Carry on!
